Shopify, an e-commerce software startup based in Ottawa, had a crazy idea. They built a platform like Twitter where their employees can share information about the cool things they’re doing. They named the platform UNICORN. Folks at Shopify had been using UNICORN to improve the way they communicate, collaborate, and compensate their employees.
Since the launch, Shopify expanded the system to include their part-time employees and interns. While most businesses are investing in external customer-facing social media solutions, Shopify prefers investing in equally internal tools.
