According to experts, having the right incentives for your team can help increase employee’s productivity.
Nick Holley, director of the Centre for HR Excellence at Henley Business School, believes management is key to incentivising staff to go the extra mile. “A good manager can engage people so they want to go the extra mile,” he says. “The question is, what makes a good manager? In our research, what is clear is there isn’t one approach to managing; it needs to be flexed to fit the needs of the individual.”
Another incentive that employers can give to their staff is a flexible environment. Companies can motivate their employees by allowing them to take ownership of their tasks. Rather than following a specific routine, employees tend to get more engaged in their jobs if they are given the flexibility as to how they perform their responsibilities.
